Naigobya Village is located in Luuka District in Eastern Uganda, approximately 220 kilometers east of Kampala, the national capital. The village lies within the Busoga sub-region, an area known for its rich cultural heritage including the source of the Nile, close-knit communities, and strong social cohesion. Despite its vibrant culture and active community networks, the village faces persistent challenges in education, healthcare, and early childhood development, making it an ideal setting for innovative, community-led interventions.
Naigobya has been selected as the pioneer village for the OVAAT model, combining high developmental need with strong local leadership and community engagement. Its collaboration with the Brown School through annual practicum placements has helped build local capacity, making the community ready to implement an integrated, sustainable model of rural transformation.
As the first village under OVAAT, Naigobya will host the pilot Early Childhood Development & Education (ECD&E) Centre, a hub for learning, health, mentorship, and environmental stewardship. Drawing on the technical expertise of the Brown School and its partnership with the Ministry of Health, the interventions are designed to be evidence-based, culturally grounded, and fully owned by the community.
Lessons learned from Naigobya will guide replication in other rural villages across Uganda, providing a proven blueprint for scaling sustainable, community-driven development. By starting here, OVAAT sets the stage for lasting change, one village at a time.
