Sarah Namukasa is a current local volunteer with One Village at a Time (OVAT), supporting community initiatives with a focus on nutrition and early childhood development.
Sarah joined OVAT with a strong passion for working with families and young children in rural communities. As a volunteer, she supports community sensitisation sessions, assists in nutrition education activities, and works closely with caregivers to promote healthy practices for children’s growth and development.
For Sarah, volunteering with OVAT has been both a learning and service journey.
“OVAT has given me the opportunity to apply what I learned in school in a real community setting. Working directly with families has helped me understand the importance of trust, patience, and community ownership in development work.”
Through her volunteer experience, Sarah has strengthened her skills in community engagement, communication, and teamwork, while also gaining a deeper appreciation of grassroots-led solutions.
She describes OVAT as a space where volunteers are valued as partners, not just helpers—and where learning flows both ways.
Sarah’s journey reflects the everyday impact of OVAT volunteers: committed individuals working hand in hand with communities to create lasting change—one village at a time.
